Why are The Woodland trust doing this?
This is part of the Woodland Trust’s campaign to create four areas of “Centenary woodland”, to help celebrate/remember the first world war, around the UK.
You can be part of their campaign and you might also be sent a prize. Just note that you need to allow 28 days for delivery after the prize draw closes.
From 1914-1918, our nation played a part in one of history’s costliest conflicts and made an unimaginable sacrifice which scarred a generation.
One hundred years on from the First World War, leading conservation charity the Woodland Trust is honouring the past by creating something wonderful for the future – four new woods, one for each country in the UK.
Millions of native saplings will be planted to create 1,000 acres of new woodland at Langley Vale Wood in Surrey, England, Coed Ffos Las in Carmarthenshire, Wales, Dreghorn Woods near Edinburgh in Scotland and Brackfield Wood in the Faughan Valley, Northern Ireland.
The £20m Centenary Woods project will give thanks to all those involved in the war while growing into places of peace and beauty, where wildlife can thrive, for generations to come.
